I have a friend that inquired about my inspiration. Basically, I paint a blanket of colour and wait to see what emerges from the fog. This one started with green, orange and red violet. The surprise for me was that the painting was lit on the water while the sky remained cloaked in darkness. The images then create a feeling.
My husband said, "What's with the boat?"
"What indeed?"
He later came back with a rational explanation. "He's looking at the sky to see if there is enough wind to bother going sailing."
I've called the piece Lost @ Sea because the idea of loss is evocative. Why is the boat empty? Why is this person so still? Why is there a cross at his feet? Where does the light come from? Is he lost in thought or is the loss literal? Why @? Is the loss virtual?
These paintings and their source remain a mystery to me.
