Antarctic Accidental

(This was the name given to an all white penguin. Penguins have dark backs to provide camouflage in the water. The all white penguin beautiful and, like us, flawed and vulnerable.)

Children find the night romantic
Building bonfires in the dark
Every torch a wand of magic
Every flame born from a spark

Antarctic accidental,
Cracking ice begins to thaw;
Magnificent and gentle,
Is a heartscape that is flawed.

Firelight dances in the shadows;
The moon balloons across the sky.
My heart is drifting near the shallows;
Yours is skating on thin ice.

Antarctic accidental,

Centre earth, a boiling cauldron,
Bubbling fire of merriment.
Laughter is a polar heartquake,
